I started singing and playing music at age 3, sang in
church and school through high school, and at coffee
houses after I could drive. At age 11 I began collecting
string instruments (guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin,
autoharp, etc.) and imitating Mike Seeger. In the early
60’s 1 met “Mississippi” John Hurt and “Skip” James
and pestered them to teach me guitar. I entered college
fall ‘66 and the first week in the dorm four of us
formed “The New ‘Union String Band”. We won an
intercollegiate contest in early by 67. In my Junior and
senior years 7, as well as the school, met the Reverend
Gary Davis and Booker T. Washington White. This
CD is reflective of this period of my life. The Five songs
at the end of the disc range from 1975 to 2005.
